Chronic tiredness has become such a common ailment in today's society that it's been given it's own name, 'Tired All The Time' or TATT. There are so many possible causes for feeling tired or lethargic but in Nuzest Good Green Stuff there are a number of plant-based ingredients that in combination with a healthy lifestyle may just help boost your energy levels, the first one is Beetroot.

Beetroot is a root vegetable and its powdered form is found in Good Green Stuff. The power of beetroot comes from its naturally occurring nitrates and pigments that make them their deep rich colour. Here are five ways beetroot may help to boost your energy:

  1. Improve stamina

Beetroot juice taken has been shown to improve the oxygenation of muscles when taken before exercise. This is due to the naturally occurring nitrates, which have been shown to enhance stamina for athletes as well as individuals with chronic diseases who find daily activities difficult. This also means it may help the average healthy person to go from feeling blaa, to brilliant.

  1. Source of slow energy

It's common knowledge these days that high sugar, high GI foods like potatoes can cause a spike in blood sugar levels. This causes a boost in energy then a great big plummet shortly after making us feel incredibly tired. Eating foods that help to regulate blood sugar levels can help to then regulate our energy. Beetroot has a very low glycaemic load (GL), which is a measure of both the quality and quantity of carbohydrates in a food. This means the carbohydrates found in beetroot are released into the blood stream very slowly, which when added to a meal can really help to keep our energy stable throughout the day.

  1. Improve blood flow

Research has shown that consuming beetroot can help to 'de-stiffen' blood vessels when resting, also improving the workload of the heart. When the heart doesn't have to work as hard and there is improved blood flow to the brain and other organs then energy levels and vitality may improve.

  1. Improve insulin resistance

Beetroots contain an antioxidant called alpha-lipoic acid, which may help improve insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is known as the step before type 2 diabetes, as our cells become less sensitive to insulin and is common in individuals who are overweight and find it difficult to lose. If insulin can't do it's job helping glucose into our cells, our bodies cannot create the energy we need from the food we eat and we can feel very tired and fatigued.

  1. Natural detoxification support

The body constantly undergoes natural detoxification but requires certain foods and nutrients to do so properly. Betalin pigments found in beetroot are one of them. As the liver is responsible for around 500 different functions in the body, it working effectively is essential. Betalin has been shown to support the activity of our liver's phase-2 detoxification process. By keeping the liver healthy and 'clean' can improve energy levels and the body's natural metabolic processes.
