For what I believe healthy eating is and what I try to do on a daily and weekly basis to keep my health at optimum are simple things you too can include regularly into your routine.
I believe the key to having a completely balanced and holistic life is by consuming nutritious foods found in their most natural state alongside regular exercise and some form of mindfulness practice.
Eating unprocessed, whole, organic foods where possible. Foods which are found in their simplest forms are best. Enjoy fresh fruit, nuts and seeds. Raw and organic. Avoiding pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics and added hormones found in your foods as much as possible, by selecting organic when you can.
Buying and supporting local produce not only is it generally fresher it tastes so much better too. The sweetness of some organic fruits and vegetables will blow your mind! Why not consider growing your own veggies and fruits or visit the local farmers markets, this way you too can meet some very cool new people with similar interests, or even better get to know the farmer that provides you with goodness each week, they have some great stories to share.
The sweet tooth time to say goodbye. Refined and some artificial sweeteners may taste great but the impact that they have on your health is anything but sweet! If you find yourself with a nagging sweet tooth, try to find natural sugars to help with those cravings. I always have some healthy bliss balls on hand, or I create natures little lolly treats - fresh dates, seed removed and filled with some form of nut butter, sprinkled with cinnamon.
Include regular exercise even when you don't feel like training, promise yourself you will do a 15min session anyways. And my guess is that after 15mins the happy hormones will be flowing and your body will love you for it! Find what works for you, do you enjoy dancing, swimming, running or gym work, find whatever it is and do more of that - its more fun when you do something that you love to do. Or if you are really time poor do a mini home work out, just using your body weight. Squats, Lunges, Push Ups and Core work.
Mindfulness practice something I myself, and my clients participate in regularly. There is no such thing as right or wrong way of doing this. Each practice will allow you to learn more about yourself and how your mind works. Sometimes 5min is all you need other times you may find you can sit for half an hour just focusing on your breath. If you struggle to do this on your own, you tube has some great videos of guided meditations use these and you will have the same success. Studies have shown we can actually create long-term change to our brains by regular practice - in return changing our lives, elevating stress and strengthen immune function. Journal or Gratitude writing is another great tool.
Once I found the balance between nourishing my mind and body, my whole life started to really thrive. What you think about you bring about. If you are healthy and happy its very likely your surroundings will represent the same.
"What you look like on the outside is a direct reflection of whats going on in the inside. When you start to nourish yourself better internally your external world around you becomes better in return and magic happens."
