What's in Good Green Stuff? Kelps Role in Improving Energy

Author_Jaime-Rose-Chambers Supplements

Kelp is a sea vegetable or 'seaweed' we are probably most familiar with in Japanese cuisine. It is so rich in minerals is almost literally sucks up the minerals in the sea and is therefore a densely rich source. Micronutrients (vitamin & minerals) can be lacking in an unbalanced diet and may often be a contributor to low energy levels. These are the top source of energy-boosting micronutrients you can find in kelp, a powerful little ingredient found in Nuzest's Good Green Stuff:

  1. Chromium

Chromium is an essential trace element found in kelp that the human body needs but only in very small amounts. It plays a role in improving blood sugar control particularly for individuals with pre-diabetes or diabetes by improving the way our bodies use insulin. It may therefore play a role in weight management and improving energy levels.

  1. Folate (vitamin B9)

Folate is well known for its importance during conception and pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects. But folate is also essential for the production of energy in the body as it helps convert carbohydrates into glucose, which is our major source of fuel. Folate is also water-soluble which means it's not stored in the body and needs to be replenished daily. Low folate levels are quite common and can cause shortness of breath and mental sluggishness.

  1. Iodine

Iodine is a mineral that is used by the thyroid gland to create thyroid hormone, which is responsible for regulating our energy levels, weight and metabolic functions. Iodine comes from the soil but in Australia it's often leached out of the soil in many areas. In recent years due to our reduction in milk consumption and salt intake, once major sources of iodine, our iodine levels have dropped. Kelp is the most common vegetable that is a rich source of iodine.

  1. Iron

Kelp contains a varying amount of iron, but a decent bioavailable source nonetheless. It's also accompanied by vitamin C, which when consumed with iron can help its absorption even further. Iron is essential for carrying oxygen around our blood and when levels are low, which is common amongst young women in particular, we can feel incredible tired and fatigued.
